			The Inmates - "Bread & Water" (7") “Bread & Water” is a classic boogie, which will fill dance floors with its distinct 70’s vibe without relying on a commercial disco influence. The tune will fit well into the record collections of both Rare Grooves fans and DJs and also those favouring more modern styles. The “Bogus Beats” version offers a slightly reduced variation that will be much more than a b-side to DJs who like to mix with their records. Not much is known about the band itself. The group of seven recorded “Bread & Water” in classic set-up with additional horn section. They were brought together and produced by Keb Darge (“Legendary Deep Funk”, London) and Eddie Roberts (The New Mastersounds, Leeds). For the band a main motivation for the recording was the eventual income, which gave this boogie its name. „We called it Bread and Water, because that’s basically what we did it for!“ one Inmate commented. Other recordings of this group do not exist or at least are not known of. The harmonic and rhythmic advances together with Kemo’s great lyrics make the rework of "American Ruhr" as emotionally contemporary as the latest world crisis. It comes with startingly deep and effective, but subtly structured, shifting rhythms and meters, with great energy, movement and grace. And, most important, with a bassline that will last FOREVER! The Original Version shows best how the Homewreckers work - soulful, clear, intrinsically homegrown and utterly honest. The remix works from Mark Flash and Bileebob, both DJs and producers from Detroit´s “Underground Resistance” camp, are techno / house swingers in the old fashioned sense, but it is also more than that, because they add to their interpretation modern equipment and a wink in the eye. 			Lettuce feat. Dwele - Move On Up What can be said about one of the best funk songs ever written by one of the greatest soul/funk artist of the 20th century? Curtis Mayfield – one name, one man, one history. From his works with The Impressions – what brought him an induction into the Vocal Group Hall Of Fame in 2003 – and composing the soundtrack to the film „Super Fly“ he was highly regarded as a pioneer of funk and of politically conscious afro-american music. Curtis Mayfield was not only a multi-instrumentalist who played the guitar, bass, piano, saxophone, and drums but also singer, songwriter and producer. By taking „Move On Up“ Lettuce show that Curtis sure is a big influence for their music, too. For the vocal part Lettuce could convince Detroit rooted singer Dwele who already worked with Kanye West and who was nominated for the American Grammy. But it’s not only his past works and his soul voice that made him the perfect match for singing „Move On Up“. Also his love and understanding for artists like Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye and Donny Hathaway gave him the right background. Despite his soul influences Dwele couldn’t resist Hip Hop during his high school times and first wanted to become a rapper. So it was more a coincidence that made him start singing. His first Demo „Rize“ was recorded at home by himself. Within one week 100 copies of the demo were sold, Dwele’s local popularity grew and from then on he began his career as a soul singer.		€ 5,00
